‘Zagreb’ is a tidy, long-blooming cultivar of threadleaf tickseed that forms soft, airy mounds of thread-fine foliage smothered in small golden, daisy-like flowers. It is one of the easiest perennials you can grow — tough, drought tolerant, and reliably cheerful from late spring well into summer.
Why gardeners love it
The fine-textured foliage gives beds a relaxed, billowy look, and the constant flowers draw in butterflies and songbirds. Because it stays compact, it works beautifully at the front of a border, in a rock garden, or massed for a sea of gold.
Care tips
Give it full sun and lean, well-drained soil — pampering it with rich, moist ground only makes the stems flop. Divide the clumps every two to three years to keep them vigorous, and shear after the first flush to encourage more blooms. It will gently self-seed if you let it.

Care
How to keep it happy.
- Sunlight
- Full sun to partial shade.
- Water
- Low — drought tolerant once established. Rich or overly moist soil makes the stems floppy.
- Soil
- Happiest in infertile sandy or rocky soil, but tolerates clay and sand. Acidic to neutral pH with good drainage.
- Pruning
- Maintenance: shear the whole plant back lightly after the main flush to trigger fresh bloom, and cut to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide every two to three years to keep it dense.
